MPAA member company:

Summary:
Independent film producer-distributers are not allied with the major studios in the MPAA, but accept the MPAA's film ratings. Some independents survive only briefly. Others finance slates of films by going public, hitting up hedge funds, or exciting the interest of mid-size media companies. Independents profit by making lower-budget films for niche audiences. Together, the indies release more top-grossing films than any of the major studios. They've also accounted for 37 percent of all kid-rated smoking films over the past five years. This page charts data from all the indies. We also offer close-ups of the four biggest.
