- No mind invasion here; thankfully this movie robs audiences of any tobacco messages. SM
- Although no one smokes them, Salt (Angelina Jolie) places an ashtray and pack of cigarettes in front of a man being interrogated-brand isn't discernible nor is the pack necessary. SM

Here’s what our talented TUTD youth reviewers are saying about recent movies…

Remember Me

Balanced messages- but overall Remember Me receives the auto black lung for tobacco use around a child.

A healthy 21-year-old male in sitting on the balcony in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. But, whats this? Hes smoking! Such is the manner in which we are introduced to Robert Pattinsons Tyler Hawkins, a poetry-loving, undecided college student. It has to be said, this was probably the most accurate way to introduce his character, as theres barely a minute of him onscreen without a cigarette in his hand and a plume of cigarette smoke framing his face. Throughout the course of the film, he smokes in the park with his 11-year-old sister, walking down the street with his non-smoking friend, in a bar, in his house, on the balcony outside his house, and in his fathers offices lobby (a designated non-smoking area). There's also one incident of an extra smoking; a taxi driver smoking a cigarette in a vehicle. However, despite the abundant use of tobacco in this film, there were also some anti-tobacco messages. The first was when Tyler was at the park with his sister Caroline. A woman sarcastically asks him, Can this be a non-smoking statue? before walking away in a huff. Tyler slowly puts it out. Another incident is when Ally is looking at Carolines art and she tells Caroline that she cant believe that he smokes near [her]. Theres also the memorable scene in which a secretary tells Tyler he cant smoke in the lobby of their building, and he asks why theres an ashtray. She answers that its just a bowl that ties the room together, so he behaves immaturely, puts his cigarette out and mockingly tells her that it was just there to taunt him. Though this film was not perfect, and indeed feature quite a bit of smoking, it did its part in balancing it out by having people discuss his habit, as well as make him look immature by smoking.

Here's what other students are saying about the movies

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (PG-13)
Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was an exciting film that was packed with action. The performances by Shia LaBeouf and Harrison Ford were both excellent. The plot in the movie is that Indiana Jones is called back into action when he becomes involved by accident in a Soviet plan to discover the secret behind the mysterious artifacts known as the Crystal Skulls. The only things that I have to say that are bad about this movie is that the movie is too full of action and not enough dialogue to follow the complicated plot, and it has lots of smoking. Other than that, Indiana Jones is all in all a well-rounded film with action, adventure, not enough dialogue, and, unfortunately, way too much smoking.
